The Sisters of the Sea Story

The story behind Sisters of the Sea began with a desire to celebrate one of my own sea sisters on her birthday. I wanted to create something special for her to mark our friendship and the ocean that brought us together.

I have met some incredible women in the sea and through various swimming or surfing clubs over the years, women from all around the world, with a massive spread of talents, careers and backgrounds. These women have cheered me on, buoyed me up and celebrated my successes – and I have done the same for them.

Whether you’re swimming, dipping, surfing, paddling, sailing, diving, or simply being beside it, the ocean is an incredible place.

It heals your soul, fills your heart and ignites your fire.

And when you take a friend, the effects are immediately doubled. I don’t think there is much better than being in the water with a buddy; sharing laughs, secrets and worries, appreciating life and wondrous nature, and just being, together.

So I decided that needed celebrating. And once I had designed the image and I had that first hoody in my hands, I knew I wanted one too. And then I thought, maybe other women would want to recognise their own sisters of the sea. And maybe they would also like to treat themselves to something that every time they wear it, reminds them of the ocean and of their friends.

I worked hard at sourcing the perfect pieces to print on, selecting the softest, cosiest fabrics and a choosing a wide range of colours. I especially wanted a really luxurious hoody, because after getting out of the water here in the UK, a cosy hoody is essential. Thumb holes, and a decent sized hood…if you know, you know! So whether you are shopping for yourself, or for your own favourite salty sister, you can be sure that these products have been carefully selected and designed with you all in mind.

Not only that, but as the ocean has give me so much, I wanted to pay it forward a little. So 5% of EVERY Sisters of the Sea sale is donated directly to The Wave Project. Based in my home town of Newquay, but with programmes across the UK, The Wave Project are an amazing charity that provide free surfing courses as therapy for young people who need it, proving that the sea really can heal. They also run adaptive surfing sessions, surf clubs and beach school courses. I am in total awe of the work they do and results they see, and am honoured to be able to contribute in some small way.

And that’s the story so far

My dream is to see Sisters of the Sea everywhere. From little Newquay in Cornwall, to the world!
